District 3 - Becki Graham
Biography
Raised in northeastern Pennsylvania, Becki moved to Las Cruces in September 2000 to attend graduate school at NMSU. After earning a Master’s degree in anthropology and a Ph.D. in English, she – like so many others who discover this city – decided she could never leave. Inspired to serve the community she loves, Becki ran for election to the City Council in 2021.
Becki has been a staff and adjunct faculty member at NMSU/Doña Ana Community College since 2011. In her staff role, Becki researches and develops programs that support sustainable, equitable regional economic development. She has taught writing courses, focusing on developmental writing skills and critical thinking, and has consistently learned from her students as much as she taught.
Becki’s husband, Mike, is also an NMSU alum and is a driver and EMT for the Las Cruces Fire Department. They share passions for mountain biking and boxing; and share their home with their beloved dogs, Dawkins and Ghost.
District 3
A resident of District 3 since early 2006, Becki is proud to live in one of the city’s most history-rich areas. She considers her neighbors one of her greatest assets is honored to carry their voices with her as a City Councilor. One of Becki’s highest concerns is making sure that District 3 has opportunities to grow and progress, as other Las Cruces districts are experiencing – Las Cruces will be stronger when all areas of the city have the chance to grow together. She is also committed to seeing that District 3 infrastructure, such as lighting, roads, and parks, receives the attention its residents deserve. These elements are not only essential to public safety, but also to quality of life.
Becki unequivocally supports living wages for all workers, ensuring that laborers’ income is sufficient to afford them quality housing, nutritious food, utilities, and transportation. Combining living wages with access to affordable education is key to social mobility for District 3 residents.
