Music in the Park

MusicParkWeb 2021

The City of Las Cruces Music in the Park series is a musical extravaganza that includes an eclectic mix of performances from local, regional, and nationally recognized artists. The series which began in 1994, highlights the great talent and diversity of Las Cruces and southern New Mexico music.  Each year more than 70 percent of the scheduled musicians are from the Las Cruces area.

Over the past year, the City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department’s Music in the Park series hosted and recorded 46 Virtual Music Performances featuring area and regional country, rock, blues, Spanish, mariachi, folk, and jazz musicians.  These performances were recorded during lock-down periods when State and local public health orders did not allow for in person audiences. (Live music performances were held from July through the end of August 2021.)

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the City of Las Cruces felt that it was important to stay engaged and connected to our local musicians during this difficult situation.  Area musicians were hit hard, as were many in our community.

Virtual Music in the Park provides the opportunity for area musicians to showcase their talents to audiences near and far.  Each performance provides highlights to their unique experiences of virtual engagement and their vibe in that moment. Music performed by many of Las Cruces favorites, live in a setting safe for everyone to enjoy and participate.

These performances can be seen through the department's web site www.las-cruces.org/MusicInThePark and the City of Las Cruces Vimeo page https://vimeo.com/showcase/7284363.

The Music in the Park Series is a major component of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department event schedule each summer. Since its start in 1994, Music in the Park has become a Las Cruces tradition during the summer months, bringing the community together to enjoy family, friends, and music.

Music in the Park 2022 Series will begin Memorial Day weekend.
