Catastrophic Business Assistance Program

Recognizing the devastating effects of catastrophic incidents, whether caused by natural disasters, human-made events, or technological failures, the Catastrophic Business Assistance Program seeks to support businesses that have encountered sudden and overwhelming harm or damage.

Under this program, eligible businesses can apply for awards up to $10,000. However, it is important to note that funding is limited, and the program will remain open only until all available funds have been expended. Therefore, eligible businesses are encouraged to submit their applications promptly to secure their chance of receiving financial relief.

To qualify for the Catastrophic Business Assistance Program, businesses must be located within the Las Cruces city limits, and demonstrate that they have faced significant operational disruptions, and financial setbacks resulting from the catastrophic incident they experienced. The
program aims to provide assistance to those most in need, helping them recover and rebuild in the
aftermath of such unfortunate events. Complete eligibility requirements below.  

Funding Eligibility Requirements

  • Be located in Las Cruces city limits.
  • Be a for profit business or nonprofit 501(c).
  • Have a current City of Las Cruces Business License and be in good standing with the City and State of New Mexico.
  • Provide proof of current non-profit status license and be in good standing with the City and State of New Mexico (if applicable).
  • Be in compliance with all federal, state and city laws and regulations.
  • Be a locally owned, non-corporate franchise, or non-corporate chain business.
  • Incident must have occurred on or after July 1, 2023.
  • Before and after repairs, business must be open to the public and active for business.
  • Operate from a physical location and/or mobile truck that serves the general public.

Businesses that are not eligible:

  • Short- or long-term rental or investment property (Personal real estate, independent realtors and short-term rentals that include Airbnb, Vrbo, etc.).
  • Taxis, rideshares, or food delivery services (e.g., Uber, Lyft, Yellow Cab, Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc.).
  • “Adult entertainment” businesses as defined in City of Las Cruces Municipal Code.
  • “Home-based” businesses as defined in City of Las Cruces Municipal Code.
  • Business located outside the Las Cruces city limits.
