The Las Cruces City Council will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St., for a work session.
At the work session, the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance will review its performance assessments with City Council, then report on its accomplishments and challenges during the past year. As an economic development partner with the City, MVEDA is required to report periodically to the Council on those standards.
Additionally, City Council will receive presentations from the City's federal and state lobbyists on key federal legislation and New Mexico’s legislative trends during the work session. Also, City staff will present proposed capital outlay request priorities for the upcoming 2023 New Mexico state legislative session, which begins in January.
The presentation on proposed capital outlay requests will build on the “New Mexico Capital Outlay Workshop,” a free, educational workshop for community members that will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday in Council Chambers.
The workshop will provide participants with information on:
- Understanding the basics of the New Mexico capital outlay process and procedures.
- The timing of planning and advocacy.
- Community advocacy for City of Las Cruces projects.
- Organizations seeking funding, and how the fiscal agent process works.
- Capital improvement programs and the Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan.
- How to make the most of advocacy efforts.
Information about the workshop is available by contacting Amy Johnson Bassford, Grants Manager at 575/541-2281 or by email at abassford@las-cruces.org.
