Firefighters quickly extinguished an apartment fire on Colorado Avenue on Saturday morning. First responders were dispatched to the fire on the 1900 block of Colorado Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 22. Las Cruces firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the apartment, with fire visible inside.
Crews entered the building and were able to quickly extinguish the fire in the apartment within five minutes of arrival. The fire was contained to the single apartment. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians, however, there was one deceased pet inside the apartment. Firefighters express the importance of closing bedroom doors to limit the spread of fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
