[ARCHIVED] City Council to Meet Nov. 21, 2022

City Councilors

The Las Cruces City Council will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St., for a regularly scheduled meeting.

City Council will consider the adoption of a Resolution that could approve the appointment of Jessica Streeter to serve as Municipal Judge II. If City Council approves the appointment, Jessica Streeter would begin serving as a Municipal Court judge on Jan. 1, 2023.

The Las Cruces City Charter authorizes the City Council, to “fill a vacancy by appointment of a municipal judge to serve until the next regular election,” which will be in November 2023. There is currently a vacancy for the Municipal Court Judge II position.

Mayor Ken Miyagishima has recommended the appointment of Jessica Streeter, which is subject to City Council approval. Ms. Streeter currently serves as a judge for the state’s Third Judicial District. Her term as a state District Judge expires Dec. 31, 2022.

Ms. Streeter is an active attorney with the New Mexico State Bar Association.

Additionally, City Council will consider the adoption of an Ordinance that would amend a section of the City’s Municipal Code that applies to development standards regarding office, commercial, and industrial zoning districts. After City Council adoption of amendments to Chapter 38, Zoning, of the Las Cruces Municipal Code, on Sept. 7, 2021, which incorporated regulations related to cannabis-related uses, City staff discovered that Section 38-32D, “Development Standards-Office, Commercial, and Industrial Zoning Districts” was inadvertently omitted.

The section should be reintroduced to the Municipal Code. City Council will decide if the zoning code amendments are appropriate.

The agenda for Monday’s City Council meeting is available at https://lascruces.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=374.

Monday’s City Council meeting will be televised live on CLCTV, Comcast Cable channel 20 and in high definition on Comcast Cable channel 928. The Council meeting also will be available online at YouTube.com/clctv20.
