The Las Cruces City Council unanimously adopted a Resolution approving the appointment of Jessica Streeter to serve as Municipal Judge II. The Council action was at its Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, regularly scheduled meeting in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St.
Jessica Streeter will begin serving as Municipal Court Judge II on Jan. 1, 2023. The Las Cruces City Charter authorizes City Council, to “fill a vacancy by appointment of a municipal judge to serve until the next regular election,” which will be in November 2023.
Ms. Streeter currently serves as a judge for the state’s Third Judicial District. Her term as a state District Judge expires Dec. 31, 2022.
Ms. Streeter is an active attorney with the New Mexico State Bar Association.
City Council also unanimously adopted an Ordinance that will amend a section of the Las Cruces Municipal Code that applies to development standards regarding office, commercial, and industrial zoning districts.
On Sept. 7, 2021, City Council adopted amendments to Chapter 38, Zoning, of the Las Cruces Municipal Code. The Council’s actions that day incorporated regulations to cannabis-related uses.
However, City staff discovered that Section 38-32D, “Development Standards-Office, Commercial, and Industrial Zoning Districts” was inadvertently omitted. The omitted table outlines general development standards such as setbacks and height limits.
The omitted section will be reintroduced into the City’s Municipal Code. The amendment will not affect cannabis regulations.
