The Las Cruces City Council will meet for a work session at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St.
A sustainability quarterly update will be presented to City Council. On Oct. 5, 2020, City Council adopted the Las Cruces Climate Action Plan. This ongoing series continues Monday with a report to City Council on building decarbonization goals through policy, education, and the promotion of highly efficient technologies.
Future work sessions regarding sustainability will cover greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies for the following sectors: energy, buildings, and waste sector.
Each quarter the City’s Sustainability Office will provide an update to City Council on the progress and opportunities related to sustainability, most often through the lens of climate change.
Additionally, City Council will discuss a draft of the City’s proposed Tree Care Ordinance during Monday’s work session. City staff presented preliminary information about the draft Ordinance at an October 2017 work session.
At that work session, the Council requested additional information and research from City staff. An advisory committee was formed, and includes Parks and Recreation Department staff, the Urban and Community Forestry Program Manager at the State of New Mexico Forestry Division, and community advocates.
The committee has developed a draft ordinance for City Council’s review.
