To enhance safety and security at Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave., the City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will require youth ages 12 to 17 to obtain a *Parks & Recreation I.D. Card to access open gym recreation and leisure in the facility. Youth ages 11 and under always require parent/guardian supervision while in the facility.
Open gym recreation includes indoor and outdoor amenities such as basketball, volleyball, billiards, foosball, cornhole, and ping pong.
Beginning Monday, December 19, 2022, youth ages 12 to 17 will be required to sign in at the front desk and show a City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation activity ID card to participate in open gym recreation and leisure activities within the facility. Teens, ages 14 to 17 also will have access to cardio equipment such as treadmills and ellipticals free of charge (no weights) with documented parent permission.
* Parks & Recreation Activity ID Card:
To obtain a card, a parent or guardian and youth, must appear in person at Meerscheidt Recreation Center to fill out an annual waiver, provide proof of age and grade, and have the youth’s photo taken. Activity ID Cards can be obtained between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
