[ARCHIVED] Fire Damages Home in Mesquite Historic District

Firefighters putting out house fire on San Pedro Street

Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a fire that damaged a home on north San Pedro Street Tuesday evening.
  
 Shortly after 9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, firefighters were dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire on the 300 block of north San Pedro Street in the Mesquite Historic District. First arriving firefighters observed flames emitting from the single-story home and were told someone might be inside the residence.
  
 Firefighters aggressively attacked the blaze and had the fire under control withing about 10 minutes. A search of the home determined it was unoccupied.
  
 The blaze caused extensive fire and smoke damage. A total of 30 fire personnel responded to the incident and no injuries were reported.
  
 Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. Damage estimates have yet to be determined.
