[ARCHIVED] Mullen Appointed Deputy Chief

Sean Mullen, a lieutenant with 13 years of experience as a Las Cruces Police Department officer, has been selected to become Deputy Chief of Administration effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Mullen will replace Kiri Daines who retired from the department in November.

“I’m happy to welcome Sean into the Administrative Section of the Las Cruces Police Department,” said Chief Miguel Dominguez. “Sean brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from several sections, and I believe he’ll be a key figure in helping lead the Las Cruces Police Department into the new year and beyond.”

Mullen has most recently overseen the department’s Traffic Unit. Prior to becoming a lieutenant, Mullen was a sergeant within the department’s Internal Affairs office and, before that, within the Criminal Investigations Section. As a sergeant, Mullen oversaw investigators within Internal Affairs and CIS, respectively.

In his new duties with LCPD, Mullen will oversee Investigations and Support Services that include the Criminal Investigations Section, Intelligence Unit, the Law Enforcement Training Academy, Community Outreach, Administration Programs and Metro Narcotics.

Mullen began his career with Las Cruces police after graduating from the department’s 40th Academy in 2009. Mullen has served in the Las Cruces Police Department’s Patrol Section, Traffic Section, Criminal Investigations Section and Internal Affairs.

Mullen has also overseen the Las Cruces-Dona Ana County Crime Stoppers program since 2019.

The Las Cruces Police Department has two deputy chiefs who report to Chief Miguel Dominguez. Deputy Chief Jeremy Story was appointed to his position in October and oversees the three patrol shifts along with the Traffic Unit, SWAT team and Police Service Aids.
