The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will offer sessions for adults 18 and older who have been sedentary, want to start moving, but are not sure where to begin.

Couch to One, is a “beginners” program and will get you started. This walk-to-run program promises to get you from the couch to one mile in six weeks.

Sessions will be at Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave., from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 24, 2023, and ending March 2, 2023. Good running shoes, comfortable, layered clothing, and a fitness tracker are suggested. A journal will be provided for all participants to track their progress.

The six-week program fee is $12. If you have not registered for a program with the City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department, an account will need to be created to register for this program. Registration begins January 6 and ends Jan. 16, 2023.

Online registration is at lascruces.gov/community, click on the "Online Registration" link, then click on "Adult Programs." Registration also is available at the following location during regular business hours:

  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
