[ARCHIVED] Solano Drive Pedestrian Crash Proves Fatal

Blue and Red Police Lights Update

Las Cruces police have learned that the pedestrian struck by a vehicle Jan. 5 on Solano Drive succumbed to his injuries earlier this week.

Jake Baker, 36, died Sunday, Jan. 15, from injuries he sustained in the Jan. 5 crash. Baker is from Oklahoma but had recently been living in Las Cruces.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, Las Cruces police were dispatched to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on Solano Drive, between Lohman Avenue and Amador Avenue. Officers determined that Baker was struck by a Nissan Altima that was traveling north on Solano Drive.

Baker was initially transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center and then to University Medical Center of El Paso where he passed on Sunday.

Crash investigators determined that Baker attempted to cross Solano Drive mid-block, between intersections, where there is no crosswalk. The investigation indicates Baker tried crossing the roadway as traffic was passing.

The 28-year-old driver of the Altima remained on scene and has been cooperative with the investigation. No charges will be filed against him.
