[ARCHIVED] City Council Work Session, TIDD Board Meeting on Jan. 23, 2023

City Councilors

The Las Cruces City Council will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St., for a Tax Increment Development District Board meeting followed by a City Council work session.

Updates on finances and current projects in the TIDD will be presented to the board at Monday’s meeting. The Tax Increment Development District includes properties within the city’s downtown area. The agenda for Monday’s TIDD Board meeting is available online at https://lascruces.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=570.

Monday’s City Council work session will include a presentation to the Council regarding proposed designations of Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas.  The City has been working with consultants to designate portions of the City’s Infill area as Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas.

The boundaries of the Infill area are Interstate Highway 25, the northern boundary of the University Avenue Corridor Overlay Zone, Valley Drive (New Mexico Highways 188 and 185), Hoagland Road, Alameda Boulevard, Three Crosses Avenue, and north Main Street (U.S. Highway 70).

The presentation to City Council, by consultants, will be about the status of the designation process.

Residents are also reminded the City will host two public open houses to answer questions and collect community input regarding the designations of new Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas (MRA). The first open house will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, in the City Hall Conference Rooms 2007 B/C. The second open house will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at Cruces Creatives, 205 E. Lohman Ave.

The MRA designation would allow Las Cruces to create a plan that includes extensive community engagement to plan for further economic development and housing improvements. MRA plans facilitate public-private partnerships to assist in economic development, and improvements to infrastructure and housing. Downtown Las Cruces has already been designated as an MRA, and the designation has helped the community’s efforts to revitalize downtown the past several years.

Also during Monday’s work session, Municipal Court staff will update City Council on operations regarding the court.

The agenda for Monday’s work session is available at https://lascruces.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=525.

Monday’s TIDD Board meeting and City Council work session will be televised live on CLCTV, Comcast Cable channel 20, and in high definition on Comcast Cable channel 928. The TIDD Board meeting and Council work session will also be livestreamed at YouTube.com/clctv20.

Prior to TIDD Board meeting and work session, City Council will conduct a Closed Meeting at 11 a.m. Monday, at City Hall, to discuss limited personnel matters regarding the former City Attorney.
