In honor of National Seed Swap Day, Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave., will host a Spring Seed Swap from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023.
The swap will be in the library’s Roadrunner Room and participants are encouraged to bring seeds to share with the rest of the community. A few seed swapping guidelines include:
- Try to avoid hybrid seeds and go for heirlooms instead.
- Make sure seeds are clean and free from bugs/mold.
- Label and bring seeds in mini Ziplock bags, coin envelopes, old pill bottles, jars, etc. If you can share growing instructions, even better!
- Make sure seeds are not too old or make sure they have been stored in cool and dry conditions.
The Master Gardeners of Doña Ana County will also be at the Seed Swap to answer growing questions and provide seed starting advice. This program is offered in support of the Tierra Sagrada Seed Library, housed at the Branigan Library and open to community members of all ages.
