The City Council is kicking off the budget review process for fiscal year 2024– which begins July 1, 2023. City staff has already started the process of compiling items to be included in next year’s budget. I have also identified key priorities that include
- Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Designations. Areas designated as part of an MRA are provided with a variety of economic tools to implement projects that contribute to revitalizing historically blighted areas. We have identified two priority areas: El Paseo/S. Solano and W. Picacho.
- Increased Housing and Neighborhood Services Staff. It is important that there be sufficient City staff to help address the growing needs of our low-income and vulnerable populations. Housing will continue to be a priority for me, especially as we gear up to allocate the $6 million, you, the voters, approved in 2022.
- Increased Funding for Pavement Management System. I will continue to advocate for additional funding for this system to ensure we continue to make necessary street repairs and improvements.
- Energy Transition: Many of us can agree that our gas bills lately have been far too high. This has only made it clear to me that we must begin planning for an electric future. This is an investment we must start making today.
In order to best advocate for our District, it is important to me that I understand your priorities for your neighborhood, our district, and the City. I ask our residents in District 4 to provide information on what you would like to have considered in the proposed City budget. Please complete the short feedback form here. El Concejo Municipal iniciará su revisión del presupuesto de la Ciudad de Las Cruces del año fiscal 2024, que comienza el 1 de julio de 2023. El personal de la ciudad ya ha comenzado el proceso de compilación de los elementos que se incluirán en el presupuesto del próximo año. También he identificado prioridades cruciales que incluyen:
- Designaciones del Área de Reurbanización Metropolitana (ARM). Las áreas designadas como parte de un ARM cuentan con una variedad de herramientas económicas para implementar proyectos que contribuyan a revitalizar áreas históricamente deterioradas. Hemos identificado dos áreas prioritarias: El Paseo/S. Solano y W. Picacho.
- Aumento del Personal de Vivienda y Servicios Vecinales. Es importante que haya suficiente personal municipal para ayudar a abordar las crecientes necesidades de nuestras poblaciones vulnerables y de bajos ingresos. La vivienda seguirá siendo una prioridad para mí, especialmente a medida que nos preparamos para asignar los $ 6 millones, ustedes, los votantes, aprobaron en 2022.
- Aumento de la Financiación para el Sistema de Gestión de Pavimentos. Continuaré abogando por fondos adicionales para este sistema para garantizar que continuemos haciendo las reparaciones y mejoras necesarias en las calles.
- Transición Energía. Muchos de nosotros podemos estar de acuerdo en que nuestras facturas de gas últimamente han sido demasiado altas. Esto solo me ha dejado claro que debemos comenzar a planificar un futuro eléctrico. Esta es una inversión que debemos comenzar a hacer hoy.
Para abogar mejor por nuestro Distrito, es importante para mí que comprenda sus prioridades para tu vecindario, nuestro distrito, y la Ciudad.
