The Las Cruces City Council will convene for a work session at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St.
At Monday’s work session, the Council will be introduced to team members of the City’s Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) Program. The team also will update the Council on recent actions and the necessary steps to begin integrating response to 911 mental health emergencies in Las Cruces.
During the City’s 2022 fiscal year, the Las Cruces Fire Department (LCFD) was directed and funded by City Council to add mental crisis intervention services to the MIH Program, within the City’s Community Risk Reduction line of business. With support from the City Manager’s Office and City’s Human Resources Department, LCFD has been able to create job descriptions, advertise, and hire for all positions within the Project L.I.G.H.T. (Lessen the Incidents of Grief, Harm, and Trauma) team.
LCFD also has completed the re-assignment of firefighter paramedics to Project LIGHT.
Also, at Monday’s work session, City Council will receive a presentation on Pedestrian Safety, which will introduce the Safe System Approach and the key principles of safe roadway design. Additionally, the presentation will include some local applications of safe design and highlight specific short, mid, and long-term countermeasures that can improve pedestrian safety.
Pedestrian safety is a growing concern in Las Cruces and the city’s rate of pedestrian fatalities has been higher than the U.S. average. Although roadway safety has always been an important goal in the planning, design, and operation of the city’s transportation system, a more comprehensive approach is needed to effectively address pedestrian safety.

Monday’s work session will be televised live on CLCTV, Comcast Cable channel 20, and in high definition on Comcast Cable channel 928. The work session will also be streamed live at YouTube.com/clctv20.
Prior to Monday’s work session City Council will conduct a Closed Meeting at 11 a.m. at City Hall. The Council will discuss pending litigation during the Closed Meeting.
Immediately following Monday’s work session, a brief Agenda Setting Meeting will be conducted to determine the agenda for the Council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023.
