New Mexico state flags flown outside of City of Las Cruces buildings and facilities were lowered to half-staff Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019 and will fly in that manner until sunset Friday, Sept. 20, 2019.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham ordered state flags to be lowered in honor of state Sen. Carlos Cisneros, 71, who passed away Tuesday. Cisneros, of Questa, had served in the New Mexico Legislature since 1984. The full text of Lujan Grisham’s executive order can be read here.
Designated City staff members will take care of raising and lowering the state flag at certain City buildings, where designated custodial and operations staff are assigned, and at other facilities. The Las Cruces police, fire, and Parks & Recreation departments, and Las Cruces International Airport, who handle those directives through their individual protocols based on this formal notification, will lower state flags at those facilities.
