[ARCHIVED] City Council Budget Retreat on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, 2023

City Councilors

The Las Cruces City Council will conduct two special work sessions Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, and Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave.

The special work sessions will be a two-day Budget Retreat that begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The Budget Retreat is anticipated to last most of both days and is open to the public.

Historical and financial data for City government’s General Fund for the 2023 fiscal year will be presented to the Council during Wednesday’s session of the Budget Retreat. The status of City debts and investments will also be presented.

The Budget Retreat will enable City Council to begin development of City’s budget for the 2024 fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2023. Proposed preliminary budgets for five City departments, including Public Works, Police, Quality of Life, Parks & Recreation, and Economic Development will be presented to the Council during Wednesday’s portion of the Budget Retreat.

Council presentations for Thursday’s session of the Budget Retreat include Planning and an Overview of the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and Aligning the Capital Improvement Plan with the Community’s Vision. The Budget Retreat will conclude Thursday with Council discussion of strategies and next steps in development of the budget.

To engage residents and encourage participation in the important process of developing the City budget, City Council seeks public feedback on priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. Feedback can be provided by clicking here.

The online feedback form will be available until March 17.

The agenda for Wednesday’s session of the Budget Retreat is available online at https://lascruces.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=592. The agenda for Thursday’s portion of the Budget Retreat is also available online at https://lascruces.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=593.

The Budget Retreat will not be televised on CLCTV and will not be streamed live or recorded for later playback on clctv.com or on the City’s YouTube channel.
