[ARCHIVED] Infrastructure Improvements to be Made at Las Cruces International Airport

One infrastructure rehabilitation project at Las Cruces International Airport has begun and two more are expected to start soon.

A $95,000 cape seal project began Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019 for Taxiway Delta at the airport, 8990 Zia Boulevard. In the coming weeks, work is scheduled to begin on an approximately $160,000 mill and overlay project for Zia Boulevard, Wingspan Drive, Gasoline Alley, and a portion of Harry Burrell Boulevard which are at or adjacent to the Las Cruces airport. Also, new security gates and access system will be installed at three locations along the airport’s perimeter, at a cost of $125,000.

The estimated total cost for the three projects is $380,000. Funding for the projects will come from a combination of New Mexico capital outlay funding, City of Las Cruces Hold Harmless gross receipt taxes, and the City’s General Fund.

“These various funding sources will be used so we can give the public the best bang for the buck,” said Andy Hume, Airport administrator. “We understand that these projects may cause some temporary inconvenience, but the results will be well worth it. Patience and support are greatly appreciated during these projects as we advance the goals of City Council and the Airport Master Plan.”

The three projects will increase pilot safety, reduce debris that can damage aircraft, and improve security at the airport. They are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Taxiway Delta, between Runway 12/30 and the north end of the airport, will be closed during that rehabilitation process. All necessary safety and security precautions, and notifications, will be followed at the airport. Updates from the airport manager’s office will be provided as progress is made on these projects.
