City Councilors

The Las Cruces City Council approved a Resolution adopting a $519 million budget for the City’s Fiscal Year 2023-2024.

City Council’s approval of the budget was at its meeting on Monday, May 15, 2023, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St.

The Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget aligns with the goals of the City Council Strategic Plan and Elevate Las Cruces. Development of the proposed budget began with a City Council pre-budget retreat Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, 2023.

With City Council’s adoption of the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget, it will be filed with the State of New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration by June 1, 2023, for approval as required by State Law (NMSA 1978 Chapter 6, Article 6).

The Fiscal Year 2023-2024 City budget is available online at www.lascruces.gov/budget.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the Council adopted a Resolution approving the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) for the City’s Fiscal Year 2024 through Fiscal Year 2029. The CIP budget for Fiscal Year 2024 is $157,690,882.

The CIP is a six-year program that identifies the infrastructure and future capital funding needs.

One year of funded projects is followed by five unfunded years identifying future needs. Projects are listed under the following organizational units: Economic Development, Facilities Management, Las Cruces Airport, Parks & Recreation, Public Safety (police and fire), Public Works, Quality of Life, RoadRUNNER Transit, Sustainability, Utilities, and Visit Las Cruces.

Additionally, City Council adopted an Ordinance to approve a zone change from A-2, Rural Agricultural District, to C-3C, Commercial High Intensity Conditional, for approximately 10.85 acres at 4003 Tellbrook Road. The zone change will allow the property owners to construct a private residence, an engineering office, and a botanical garden.  The approved zoning designation will allow the development of the proposed land uses on the currently vacant property.
