Las Cruces police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a young girl multiple times over the course of several years.

Rogelio “Roger” Perez Montoya, 38, is charged with 56 first-degree felony counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child under 13, four second-degree felony counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

On May 18, Las Cruces police learned of allegations made by a 12-year-old girl. She claimed that Montoya, who is known to the girl’s family, had been sexually assaulting her since she was 8 years old. Detectives investigated the allegations and found corroborating evidence that verified her claims.

Montoya was arrested Tuesday evening and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.

Investigators believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone who has additional information is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.
