[ARCHIVED] Las Cruces Fire Department Partners with Social Work Interns

LCFD MIH Program Intererns 2019

The City of Las Cruces Fire Department is pleased to announce it is teaming up with two new social work interns from New Mexico State University (NMSU) who will be working with the Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program (MIH) for the 2019–2020 school year. The interns are Charlene Debus and Jack Turney.

During the past few years the Las Cruces Fire Department has worked with many individuals who frequently found themselves in the 911 system because they had unmet needs surrounding their health and wellness. The addition of social workers to the Las Cruces Fire Department MIH team allows the department to more effectively address those needs and provide an increased diversity of services to the citizens of Las Cruces.

Charlene Debus is a second-year student in the Masters of Social Work program at NMSU. She has extensive knowledge in providing care to the elderly from her time spent at Mesilla Valley Hospice. She is also a cellist in the New Horizons Symphony Orchestra.

Jack Turney is a first-year student in the Masters of Social Work program at NMSU. He has a background in case management from his time managing Camp Hope at Mesilla Valley Community of Hope. Additionally, he has experience in addiction recovery services from his time as a case manager at Amador Health Center. Turney enjoys various outdoor activities, and is involved in the Outdoor Leadership Program at NMSU.

The partnership and internship with NMSU provides a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience with clients in the field.
