[ARCHIVED] Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Crash

Unit Lights Overheads On

A motorcyclist who lost control of his bike and crashed early Friday morning on south Main Street is in critical condition at an El Paso hospital.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, Las Cruces police were dispatched to south Main Street, near Melendres Street, where the crash occurred. Investigators learned a 20-year-old Las Cruces man was driving a 2018 Honda street bike at a high rate of speed south on Main Street. Witness told police the motorcyclist passed several vehicles before losing control and striking a curb.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike and came to a rest in the median. He was initially transported to a local hospital before being airlifted in critical condition to University Medical Center of El Paso. His injuries are possibly life-threatening.

Excessive speed and wet roads from a light rainfall are likely contributing factors to the crash. The motorcyclist was the only rider on the bike and no other injuries were reported.
