Las
Cruces police arrested a man suspected of arming himself with a knife and
threatening his 13-year-old son with it Wednesday evening.
Edward
Rodriguez Baeza, 37, of the 5000 block of Avenida Del Sol, is charged with one
count of child abuse. The charge is a third-degree felony.
The
incident occurred sometime around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Baeza’s
residence. Investigators learned that, for some reason, Baeza was upset that
his wife was not home and, in a rude manner, asked their children where she
was. Baeza’s 13-year-old son was in the kitchen when Baeza allegedly armed
himself with a knife, held it up to his son’s face and again asked, in a rude
and vile manner, where the boy’s mother was.
Shortly
after that, Baeza ordered all three children to get out of the house. They left
and eventually called 911 to report the incident.
Baeza
was arrested early Thursday morning and booked into the Dona Ana County
Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
