[ARCHIVED] Sunday Crash Critically Injures Man

Las Cruces police are continuing to investigate a single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon and critically injured a 22-year-old man.

The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, near Calle Abuelo in the Sonoma Ranch East neighborhood. A resident of the 4200 block of Ceres Court called 911 to report the crash.

Traffic investigators learned that a 2015 GMC Sierra with two occupants was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Calle Abuelo when, it appears, the driver lost control of the pickup. The pickup left the roadway, crashed through a light pole and rolled into an arroyo just south of Nidah Court. The 22-year-old man was ejected upon impact and sustained multiple injuries.

He was transported to a local hospital with multiple injuries that appear to be non-life-threatening.

The second occupant of the pickup, a 28-year-old woman, walked away from the crash and was located at her residence a few blocks away on Santiago Way.

Police are still investigating the crash. Anyone with additional information is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.
