[ARCHIVED] If These Walls Could Talk: A History of the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Property

Las Cruces Railroad Museum

The Las Cruces Railroad Museum hosts a free brown bag lecture at noon on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. On Nov. 12, Alexandra McKinney presents, “If These Walls Could Talk: A History of the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Property.”

McKinney is the Instructional Coordinator for New Mexico Historic Sites in southern New Mexico (nmhistoricsites.org). She has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of New Mexico and a master’s degree in public history from the University of West Florida. Born and raised in New Mexico, she feels that the best part of her job is learning and sharing the story of the state that her family has called home for two centuries.

Located on the Plaza in Mesilla, the Taylor property offers visitors an opportunity to understand the history, culture and architecture of the region. The adobe buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contain furnishings, artifacts, art, and textiles from the region.

The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla St. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The museum is accessible from RoadRUNNER transit Route 5 Stop 17. For additional information, visit the website at  museums.las-cruces.org  or call 575/528-3444.
