Assistant City Manager/Chief Operations Officer David Dollahon is the first-ever recipient of the Community Leadership Award presented by the National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA).

Dollahon was initially presented with the award during NACA’s national training conference and show, from Oct. 9, 2019, through Oct. 11, 2019, in Orlando, Florida. Dollahon also received special recognition for his award at the Oct. 24, 2019, Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV) Board of Directors meeting, at City Hall.

“This is the first time ever that (NACA) has presented this award,” said Clint Thacker, ASCMV director. “The way he has inspired the care of animals at a public shelter is such a very important example to set. It’s not often you get a government official to do that.

“It is very fitting that David is the first person ever to win this award. He is an animal lover and he has done a lot to help animals.”

The NACA was formed in 1978 for the express purpose of assisting its members to perform their duties in a professional manner. NACA’s purpose is to preserve the bond between humans and animals by insisting on responsible animal ownership. NACA is a nonprofit organization that is committed to setting the standard of professionalism in animal welfare and public safety through training, networking, and advocacy.
