[ARCHIVED] Hazardous Trees Slated for Removal

Removal of old Mulberry Tree

Four trees in Pioneer Women’s Park, along Court Avenue, have been deemed to be hazardous by the New Mexico State Forester and are slated for removal starting Monday, Nov. 4, 2019. A City contractor will conduct the removal process, which is anticipated to be complete by Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019.

In the 2017 New Mexico Statewide Community Forest Analysis and Management Planning Las Cruces Tree Inventory, these trees and others were noted to be in poor condition with major problems. These trees require immediate attention. The trees are in a high-traffic area of a busy park and are on a street adjacent to homes. In addition, the recent street improvement work conducted on Court Avenue has impacted these trees.

Each tree to be removed will be replaced by City Parks and Recreation staff with at least two new trees within the limits of the park. Both the tree removals and the tree replacements will be in accordance with the Pioneer Women’s Park Conceptual Master Plan Report, approved by City Council at its Oct. 7, 2019 meeting.

For information, call Jimmy Zabriskie, Community Forester at 575/541-2550.
