[ARCHIVED] STEAMpunk – Milutin Milankovic at the Museum of Nature & Science

Glass Jar

The Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., presents “STEAMpunk – Milutin Milanković,” at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019. The program is free to the public.

Milutin Milanković (1879 to 1958) was a Serbian geophysicist who studied the effects of solar energy on long-term climate changes on Earth. Best known for defining “Milanković cycles,” he described how small changes in the Earth’s orbit around the sun affect our climate.

Inspired by his work, participants will learn about tracking weather by constructing a simple barometer and thermometer to measure changes in air pressure and temperature.

“STEAMpunk” is offered monthly, highlighting the work of a historic scientist through hands-on exploration. The content and activities are intended for ages 7 to 12.

The Museum of Nature & Science is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The museum is accessible through RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1, Stop 36. For information, visit the City’s Museum System website or call 575/522-3120.
