The public is invited to Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E.
Picacho Ave., at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019 for the presentation “The
Beautiful Art of Indian Hand Block Printed Textiles.”
Hand block printing on cotton fabric by means of carved wooden
blocks is one of the prime examples of traditional textile decorating processes
still practiced in India today. The inks might sometimes be more modern, but
the basic processes have remained essentially the same for centuries. In this
illustrated presentation, participants will go on a virtual tour of the
northern Indian state of Rajasthan to explore textile producing centers that
still utilize the tradition of wood printing block carving, textile dying or
printing, and learn about the processes involved in this ancient and beautiful
folk art.
