Griselda
Martinez, who has a doctorate degree in economic development, has been promoted
to Economic Development Director for the City of Las Cruces. Martinez begins
her new duties immediately.
Martinez
has been deputy economic development director for the City since July 2017. She
has been serving as interim economic development director since March 2019.
“We
are pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Griselda Martinez to the Economic
Development Director position,” said William F. Studer, Jr., Interim City
Manager. “Dr. Martinez’s knowledge and enthusiasm continues to tremendously
benefit the City of Las Cruces, and we’re optimistic about the potential
economic growth she can help bring to our City.”
Prior
to joining the City of Las Cruces, Dr. Martinez collaborated at New Mexico
State University’s Arrowhead Center to support economic growth through
entrepreneurship and innovation within the region and the state. She also
created and implemented entrepreneurial programs in Spanish, specifically
working with low-income students in Mexico City. Her vision for the Economic
Development department is to highlight and utilize the notable assets in our
region to positively impact the community and to create opportunities for
economic growth, in collaboration with local and regional partners.
Martinez
received her bachelor’s degree in Economics and a master’s degree in Public
Administration at the University of Texas, El Paso. She earned her doctorate
degree in Economic Development at NMSU.
