The Sage Branch of Thomas Branigan Library in conjunction with the New Mexico Humanities Council, invite you to a special event from 1 – 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 featuring author, Bob Julyan. Mr. Julyan is an Albuquerque-based writer and lecturer specializing in the connections between human and natural history. “The Place Names of New Mexico” is his standard reference. He has been chair of the New Mexico Geographic Names Committee for more than 15 years. He has also written guides to the wilderness and the Continental Divide Trail.
Sangre de Cristo, Custer Mountain, Las Cruces, Mesilla, Animas - such intriguing names, rich with anecdotes and folklore. But place names also offer unique insights into the history and values of the state's peoples. With humor and local examples tailored to your locale, Bob Julyan gives audiences a lively names tour of the New Mexico landscape.
