Waiting for the Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) Green Grappler to pick up your Christmas tree curbside for recycling? Why wait? Head over to the Old Foothills Landfill at 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd. for free disposal of your tree.
During business hours, Monday through Friday 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Saturday 9 AM to 3 P.M., residents can take their trees directly to the green waste area. After hours and on Sunday when the landfill is closed, a roll-off container will be placed outside the gate at the landfill, through Friday, January 31st.
LCU repurposes the cut trees – and other green waste like leaves and sticks – into composted mulch that can be used at homes and businesses all over town for dust control, weed control, and moisture retention for plantings. The mulch is available free of charge.
For easy disposal, please keep a couple of things in mind before you drop off your tree:
Please remove all decorations, ornaments, icicles, tinsel, and lights before recycling.
Make sure that trunk and branches are smaller than 5-inches in diameter.
Please note: Trees with fake flocked “snow” cannot be recycled and must either be placed on your curb for regular grappler pick up or taken to the South Central Solid Waste Authority transfer station at: 2865 W. Amador Avenue for disposal.
