The City of Las Cruces Railroad Museum will hold its 12th annual Transportation Day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. This year, large vehicles and equipment from the Las Cruces Fire Department, police department, public works department and transit will participate.
Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railway by testing your knowledge of train history. Meet historic re-enactors from El Paso to discover first-hand what it was like to live and work in the early 20th century. The Doña Ana Modular Railroad Club will also have a large display of H-O trains running.
Outside, weather permitting, live steam demonstrations will take place hourly. Try your hand at signaling with color coded flags, the same way rail yard employees signaled the locomotive crew. Equipment from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will be on display.
The Railroad Museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The closest RoadRUNNER stop is bus route 4 stop 2.
