[ARCHIVED] March Programs for the Family at the Branigan Cultural Center

The Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Main St., will offer a variety of programs and exhibits in March. The schedule of activities includes:

Exhibit Opening and Craft Activity

Lucha Libre: Stories from the Ring

5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2020. The craft activity will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Lucha Libre: Stories from the Ring is an exhibition that opens Friday, March 6, 2020 and will continue through Saturday, June 30, 2020. This exhibit features the rich history of lucha libre that includes theatre, athleticism, dance, story, folk heroes, and the visual arts. Attendees for the opening reception will have the opportunity to decorate their own mask to take home after touring this new exhibition.

Field Trip to Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday March 7, 2020

Experience the Organ Mountains with a guided hike to Las Cruces’ nearest national monument. The hike is free, but pre-registration is required by March 4, 2020. The guided hike will meet at the trailhead, so participants should come prepared with all the essentials to hike! More details will be provided at the time of registration.

History Notes: The History of Camp Cody with Jim Eckles

1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Branigan Cultural Center

Jim Eckles presents the history of Camp Cody from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12. Learn about the history of this early 20th century military training camp at Deming, New Mexico. Jim Eckles is a local historian and retiree from White Sands Missile Range where he worked for 30 years. His research into Camp Cody opened the door to an all but forgotten chapter in southern New Mexico’s World War I history.

Nature Photography Workshop

10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020

Join photography enthusiasts throughout Las Cruces to trade tips and tricks for outdoor photography, before traveling to a local park to practice. The workshop is free, but space is limited, so please pre-register by March 18, 2020. Bring your own equipment, whatever it may be!


The Branigan Cultural Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
