The Parks & Recreation Department’s Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB) and New Mexico Clean and Beautiful will conduct this year’s Great American Cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 11, 2020.
Hundreds of volunteers will assist with a city-wide cleanup and collect litter at parks, schools, streets and business properties during the Great American Cleanup campaign. Volunteers will then be treated to a free lunch, from noon to 1 p.m. April 11, provided by Walmart, 575 Walton Boulevard.
The Great American Cleanup is a call to action for residents to beautify Las Cruces and take pride in the community. It is part of the national Keep America Beautiful program. Once an individual becomes a Great American Cleanup volunteer with KLCB the goal is to inspire community members to organize smaller events in their own neighborhoods.
Last year, about 1,000 volunteers from more than 50 local groups and organizations collected more than 15 tons of litter in Las Cruces during the annual event.
“Everyone has to do their part to keep Las Cruces free of litter,” said Sonya Delgado, Parks and Recreation director. “Our community is a great place to live and these national events help remind us to keep it that way all year round.”
Individual volunteers, groups and civic organizations are encouraged to register before Tuesday, April 7 for this year’s Great American Cleanup. Supplies to collect litter can be picked up prior to the event by calling 575/528-4506 or can be picked up the day of the event at Walmart, 571 Walton Boulevard.
