Las Cruces police have issued more than 500 traffic citations to motorists since January on specific roadways where residents have logged complaints about speeding or erratic driving.
LCPD speed monitoring equipment has verified problems exist on those roadways.
Most citations, 274 of them, were issued to drivers who were exceeding the posted speed limit. The remaining citations were issued to drivers who committed various other traffic infractions, including: driving without a license, failing to have proof of insurance, using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle, and failing to properly use seat belts or child restraints.
The roads include Hoagland Road, McClure Road, Magdalena Drive, Porter Drive, Reynolds Drive, and Roadrunner Parkway north of Highway 70.
Las Cruces police will continue to monitor traffic along those roadways and enforce all motor vehicle regulations. Officers are permitted to enforce traffic regulations in marked and unmarked vehicles.
Drivers are encouraged to adhere to posted signs and all motor vehicle regulations.
Those who wish to report problematic roadways within City limits are encouraged to call LCPD’s Traffic office at (575) 528-4113.
