Within the past
few weeks, Las Cruces residents may have found themselves searching local
grocery stores for bottled water. The City of Las Cruces recognizes the
concerns that residents may have during this uncertain time as COVID-19 cases
rise, but assures residents and guests that the City’s water supply is safe and
readily available at the tap.
Each year the
City of Las Cruces provides residents with a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR)
explaining where our water supply comes from and details the quality of the
water that is delivered to homes and businesses. Were you aware that Las Cruces
Utilities (LCU) delivers approximately 7 billion gallons of high quality water
to customers every year? It is pumped from 40 wells drilled into the Mesilla
and Jornada Bolsons.
Testing of our
water by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) monitors up to 121
potential contaminants; the regulated contaminants are listed in the CCR and
you will see LCU has no water quality violations. The City has a state of the
art water laboratory and water scientists who monitor the water supply 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Copies of the
CCRs are available in Customer Service at City Hall, the Branigan Library,
NMED, and New Mexico Department of Health Offices or online at the City’s Water Quality Resources Page.
Please remember that
bottled water will not stop the spread of Coronavirus. Individuals are
encouraged to wash hands often, cover coughs and sneezes, and to limit
per-to-person contact if possible.
If you have a concern or questions about your water, please call Las Cruces Utilities at (575) 528-3515.
