[ARCHIVED] Amending America

Amending America exhibit

Have you ever wondered how the Bill of Rights was created - and how it has been changed? This exhibit illustrates how America came to have the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution. This exhibition was created by the National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, DC. The national tour is presented in part by AT&T, HISTORY®, Seedlings Foundation, and the National Archives Foundation

To commemorate the 225th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights, “Amending America: The Bill of Rights” spotlights one of the most remarkable periods in American history. Exploring how we have attempted to renegotiate our fundamental governing charter beginning with the addition of the Bill of Rights is a key element of “Amending America: The Bill of Rights.” A three-minute animation introduces the exhibit and explains how we amend. Divided into three themes visitors will 1) learn how we came to have the first 10 amendments to our Constitution, collectively known as the Bill of Rights 2) get a closer look at each of those amendments and 3) learn how the protections under the Bill of Rights were expanded in the 20th century.

Infographics and interactives sprinkled throughout the exhibit, such as “Almost, but Not Quite” or “Our Amending Power is an American Innovation” balance facts with the stories and add to the variety of ways visitors can engage with the exhibit.
