COVID19 Joint Information Center 

April 2, 2020 10:00 a.m.  

  1. City of Anthony 

Chief Lara: March 30 started testing in Anthony for symptomatic people. Yesterday, local post office reached out to PD for assistance with crowds who are not adhering to six-foot rule, other social distancing directives. Will respond with frequent patrols. 

Nothing new from the City. Currently, next week’s council meeting is scheduled to move forward virtually.    

  1. City of Sunland Park 

Content dropped on social media about park closures, along with the PSA. Residents advised to call central dispatch if people are seen violating order. 

Test and Go site will start next Wednesday, at public helth office 8:30 to 11 by appointment only (on social media). Sunland Park is on Facebook and Twitter.  

  1. City of Las Cruce 

        Nothing new to report, will move forward with special City Council meeting tomorrow at 9:30. Residents are encouraged to channel questions through their city councilors. Below is additional information:

2.RESOLUTION(S) AND/OR ORDINANCE(S) FOR DISCUSSION 
 

Resolution No. 20-132: A Resolution Authorizing the City of Las Cruces (City) to Accept a Budget Adjustment for Emergency Assistance for the impact from COVID-19 to Various Programs from the Telshor Fund for $1,000,000 Through an Amendment to the City’s Adopted FY2020 Budget. 

  1. Las Cruces Police Department  

      Sent out a news release yesterday warning residents about scammers calling people for stimulus checks 

  1. Las Cruces Public Schools 

      Students in all grade levels have access to the enrichment channel on YouTube, which will be updated.   

      A letter to parents has been drafted, outlining learning targets and plan for the next seven weeks of remote learning. Should be going out Friday in English and Spanish.  

  1. Doña Ana County 

  • News release was sent out yesterday regarding new quarantine procedures at the detention center 

  • Would like to record the PSA on behalf of the promotoras 

  • Yesterday, Central Dispatch reported a 21% increase in domestic disturbance and child abuse calls. Jamie will work with community partners on how to mitigate anger and frustration in the home.  

  • Feedback from parents: resources that LCPS is pushing out are great, but parents are feeling overwhelmed. District officials have not received that message, but it will be passed along to the superintenent. 

  1. Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office 

Nothing new to update from the courts. 

Operationally, Undersheriff Quezada confirmed that domestic violence calls are increasing, and Patrol is working on alternate strategies for follow-up, welfare checks in coordination with other resources in the department. Will work with Jamie and HHS on other ideas that will help reach out to the community.   

  1. Doña Ana County Detention Center 

Capt. Bryan Baker has joined the JIC call, effective April 2. Had nothing additional to report outside of DAC report above.  

  1. Village of Hatch 

No report Tuesday.  

  1. Town of Mesilla 

Nothing new Thursday   

  1. Memorial Medical Center (MMC) 

  Will host a blood drive next week, for staff only to address shortage. To limit large gatherings, the drive is not open to the public.    

  1. Mountain View Regional Medical Center 

    Nothing new to report Thursday.  

  1. New Mexico State University 

President Floros will have a Town Hall every Thursday at 3 p.m. via Zoom. Last week, there were 940 people who joined, down slightly from the 999 who joined for the first Town Hall the week prior Here’s more information for anyone who would like to join:

Had a question for Plan B housing – need portable showers or sinks. Looking for resources in the event they needed them. Lt. Reyes to reach out to OEM, who will channel that request to the state EOC.  

  1. State of NM Aging & Long-Term Services - Ombudsman Program 

      Tablets are in all area nursing homes. Staff has been instrumental in connecting familiesTablets are also used for counseling sessions for those who need it. 

  1. Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority (MVRDA) 

Update on child abuse and domestic violence calls: for the month of March, first 2 weeks, there were 288 dispatches; in the last two weeks, there were 350 dispatches, an increase of 21% 

Dispatch reports there were 450 incidents that were flagged to use universal precautions, which was 6% of total dispatched calls.  

Hugo passed along a funding opportunity for those who qualify through the Department of Justice 

FY 2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program from the U.S. Department of Justice that just posted on March 30th.
