[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Issuing New Occupancy Load Signs to Essential Businesses

Covid 19 Capacity

In response to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s updated public health emergency order, the Las Cruces Fire Department is calculating load occupancy levels for essential businesses and will be distributing new signage to those businesses within the next couple days.

Under the governor’s updated order, essential businesses can be occupied at no more than 20 percent of their building’s maximum capacity as determined by the local fire marshal. The 20 percent occupancy load capacity is applicable to the number of customers allowed within the business at one time.

The Las Cruces Fire Department and Las Cruces Codes Enforcement officers will distribute the updated, temporary, occupancy load signs to essential businesses within city limits.

Violations of the maximum load capacities are subject to fine, imprisonment or both. However, the City of Las Cruces seeks voluntary compliance with the new, temporary orders and does not wish to be forced into taking formal action against any local business.

For more information on occupancy loads, call Las Cruces Fire Marshal Adrian Arias at (575) 528-3473.
