[ARCHIVED] Additional Green Grappler Curbside Pickup

City of Las Cruces Green Grappler truck

Because the Old Foothills Landfill (555 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd.) is closed to the general public during the COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Emergency Order, Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) is offering a one-time additional curbside pickup of green waste to help current residential solid waste customers. There is no charge for this service, which will be available through May 8, 2020.

“We understand it’s frustrating for residential customers not to be able to drop off their green waste as they normally would,” says Deputy Director Solid Waste, Robin Lawrence. “So, LCU is offering an extra curbside pickup prior to customer’s next scheduled Green Grappler pickup.”

Customers should use clear plastic bags to contain grass clippings and weeds at the curb, alongside neatly stacked branches or other yard waste materials, then call LCU at 575-528-3500 to request the additional pickup of green waste. As soon as possible the Green Grappler will swing by to pick up the yard waste to be recycled into composted mulch and given back to the community for free.

Green Grappler Requirements:

  • Ensure your tree branches are less than 5-feet in length and 5-inches in diameter.

  • Stack your branches neatly at the curb.

  • Place your items at least 5-feet away from all obstructions.

  • Bag grass clippings and leaves in clear plastic bags. This is so the driver can see it is yard waste and not trash.

  • If the yard waste is not in clear bags, it will be left behind.

Recycling green waste helps divert organic materials from taking up space and decomposing in our regional landfill.

Las Cruces Utilities can be contacted at 575-528-3500 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and provides services to approximately 100,000 Las Cruces residents and businesses.
