  1. City of Anthony 

 Chief Lara, Anthony PD – Going through PPE quickly, will work on resourcing more. Increase in domestic violence calls. 

 Oscar Dominguez, City Manager – Public Works employee was pulled over by EPPD. Staff ID that was issued by the city wasn’t sufficient. Needed a letter designating staff as essential employees.

  1. City of Las Cruces 

Nothing new to report Friday. Council was in special session during the conference.      

At a special meeting today, April 17, 2020, the Las Cruces City Council approved an additional $139,500 in emergency funding to assist with the impact to our community caused by the Public Health Order to address the Corona Virus. The money is from the City’s general fund. 

Agency/Organization

  • Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity: $65,000 to complete five-homes currently under construction.
  • City of LC Economic Development Department: $74,500 for microloan technical assistance. 

On April 3, City Council allocated $1,072,500 in emergency financial assistance and another $684,000 on April 10.Those funds were allocated from the Telshor Fund, money the City receives for the lease of Memorial Medical Center that is jointly owned by the City and County.

  1. Las Cruces Public Schools 

       As of Friday, most devices had been distributed to students who indicated they needed assistance, and codes from Comcast have been assigned. Nine schools reported a 100% distribution rate for technology and a handful of schools had distribution schedules this week. The LCPS Continuous Learning Plan is still online and is updated daily at www.lcps.net

NMSU regents to hold special meeting April 21 

The Board of Regents of New Mexico State University will hold a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21. Due to public health emergency mandates issued by New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, the meeting will be webcast only. The meeting will be available by webcast through the link at https://panopto.nmsu.edu/bor/. Please contact the Office of the Board of Regents at 575-646-5997 if you need additional information.
