The 2019 “Salute Across America” Tour arrives in Las Cruces today, May 2. A ceremony will start at 6 p.m. at Veterans Park, 2651 Roadrunner Parkway. The purpose of the 21-plus U.S. cities tour is to pay tribute to military veterans and to inspire patriotism, community and camaraderie.
“It started 17 years ago when I decided to step off the curb in Washington D.C. to honor others,” said Tim Chambers, event founder. “Now, I am stepping off the curb in deserving communities coast to coast!”
The ceremony begins with a performance by the Lynn Middle School Choir, followed by an invocation, presentation of the colors, the National Anthem and the introduction of Chambers, also known as “The Saluting Marine,” by Mayor Ken Miyagishima. The Mayor will present Chambers with the key to the city.
The ceremony will end with a volley of fire, the playing of “Taps,” and a benediction. “The Saluting Marine” and his group will remain afterward for a meet-and-greet.
This year’s “Salute Across America” Tour began April 27 in San Diego and concludes May 26 in Washington, D.C.
