In an effort to prevent illegal dumping during the temporary closure of Solid Waste facilities during the last week in April, Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) placed three roll-off containers around Las Cruces. Robin Lawrence, deputy director Solid Waste, says, “During the six days they were in place, our LCU staff serviced the roll-offs a total of 21 times, managing approximately 51 tons of solid waste.”

Solid Waste and recycling facilities were temporarily closed to the general public to help reduce the possibility of spreading the Coronavirus. Those facilities are now partially reopened to the general public, with restricted hours.

To help avoid exposure to the Coronavirus, members of the public must comply with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations AT ALL TIMES, while at a Solid Waste facility, which include:

  • Wearing mask and gloves during the entire time in the disposal area,
  • Anyone who does not have this protective gear will be turned away, and
  • No more than five (5) people allowed in disposal area at one time.
