[ARCHIVED] Fallen Peace Officers Memorial will be May 6 and May 7

Candlelight Vigil

The Las Cruces Police Department, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police and other southern New Mexico law enforcement agencies, will gather Monday and Tuesday, May 6 and May 7, to honor officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The Southern New Mexico Fallen Peace Officers Memorial begins with a candlelight vigil at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St. A memorial procession will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 7. The procession will start at the corner of Union Avenue and University Avenue and will travel north on El Paseo Road to the Real Life Church, 1040 El Paseo Road, where a memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

More than 50 officers from southern New Mexico and El Paso County will be honored, including those killed in the line of duty and those who died of natural causes during the past year.

The event is hosted every year prior to National Police Week, which is traditionally the second week in May. Similar events are simultaneously conducted at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
