Law enforcement officers from southern New Mexico, including from the Las Cruces Police Department, New Mexico State Police and Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office, will participate in a modified version of the 2020 Law Enforcement Torch Run on Friday in support of the New Mexico Special Olympics.

This year’s Special Olympics Torch Run – modified because of the public health emergency and the need to avoid large gatherings – begins at 8 a.m. Friday, May 29, near the intersection of Northrise Drive and Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. The Torch Run will proceed south on Sonoma Ranch Boulevard and will conclude about 9:30 a.m. at the East Mesa Public Safety Complex, 550 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd. The total run is approximately 3.2 miles.

After runners arrive at the East Mesa Public Safety Complex, they will symbolically pass the Special Olympics torch to a uniformed officer.

Participants will adhere to social distancing guidelines during the event.

The event will be livestreamed on the Las Cruces Torch Run Facebook page, LETR Las Cruces, beginning at 8 a.m.
