The City of Las Cruces voted to table Ordinance 2929 (regarding Face Coverings) at its Regular Meeting for today, June 1, 2020. Tabling the Ordinance will allow for additional comments from community members who may have been anticipating a vote on June 15th. The Ordinance will address additional situations for wearing face coverings such as all retail and commercial business, when utilizing taxi, ride share, and private car services. Some exemptions for the ordinance include when eating, drinking, for a child under the age of 3, and when wearing the face coverings would inhibit the individual’s health.
The special council meeting will also include a discussion from members of the New Mexico Department of Health. This interaction will allow the members of Council and the DOH to talk about the current sate of the public health emergency in Las Cruces and the County and the impact face masks and re-opening of businesses and services.
Also on the agenda will be a resolution to approve a grant acceptance in the amount of $42,480 from Children, Youth and Families Department, Inc. for the Juvenile Citation Program.
The Special City Council meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5.
