The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will continue implementing its phased reopening plan which will extend hours for certain specialty parks and open new public spaces. The first limited reopening under Phase One (Green Phase) has proven successful thanks to the cooperation of the community with following guidelines. The plan was designed to align with directives from New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s extended public health emergency order, which remains in place, and the New Mexico Department of Health guidelines. The Las Cruces community is encouraged to continue social distancing practices, good hygiene, keeping groups to five or less, and no large gatherings.

Phase One (Green Phase)

Beginning Monday, June 8, the green phase will expand with the addition of Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon and 5 – 9 p.m., to tennis and pickleball courts sessions. Metro Verde Tennis Court, 6013 Atlas Street, will be added to the open courts list along with Lions Park tennis court and Apodaca Park pickleball court. Schedule will be the same.

The Remote-Control Track, 1453 E. Hadley, will change to regular hours, dawn to dusk daily. The Remote-Control Airport, located in the Las Cruces Foothills Landfill, 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd., will change to regular hours, dawn to dusk, Monday – Friday. 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday.

Phase Two (Yellow Phase)

The yellow phase will begin on Monday, June 15 with the opening of one city park in each city council district. Playgrounds will remain closed for now. As parks open, park service will be increased accordingly. The parks are as follows:

  • District One: Klein Park, 155 N. Mesquite Street

  • District Two: Tony Gomez Park/Frenger Park, 2283 S. Espina St.

  • District Three: Las Cruces Dog Park, 430 N. Hermosa St.

  • District Four: La Llorona Park, 3440 W. Picacho Ave.

  • District Five: Twin Parks, median on Engler Road (between McGuffy St. and Mesa Grande Ave.)

  • District Six: Desert Trails Community Park, 3492 Sonora Springs

Under the Phase 2 Yellow, Frenger Pool will open for lap swimming by reservation only. The Regional Aquatic Center will open for lap swimming, channel use, and upstairs gym use, also by reservation. (Reservations allow employees to schedule decontamination cleaning according to use.) Reservation information will be available before Friday, June 12 at las-cruces.org/Covid19ParkSchedule

On Monday, June 15, Butterfield Shooting Range will revert to regular hours, from dawn to dusk, while still maintaining Covid-19 guidelines put in place by the Parks & Recreation department.

The Parks and Recreation Department is will continue to assess the opening of more public spaces in alignment with the Governor’s directives and the NM Department of Health recommendations.
